Responsibilities

• upgrade of the overall aesthetic of the software
• inclusion of a module allowing audio/video chat between users
• incorporation of plugins for speech recognition and synthesis
• development of new learner performance visualizations
• customization of features to support teachers and tutors
• integration with other software frameworks (e.g. LMSs) and apps
• migration of the database to data store and processing solutions optimized for big data
• integration of WebView control into a native app framework, using either iOS (Objective-C/Swift) or Android (Java)

Responsibilities

• understanding relevant studies in EEG literature
• optimizing placement of EEG electrodes over target areas
• comparing signal-to-noise ratio and other characteristics of commercial and custom EEG headsets and minimizing noise within a data acquisition system
• running power analyses to estimate the information rate EEG can provide information to our learning algorithms
• programming and executing in-house proof-of concept experiments relating EEG signals to subject behaviour
• updating an intelligent tutoring system to include real-time EEG data as well as overt learner responses

Prerequisites

• required: prior experience in signal processing or analysis of electrophysiological signals such as EMG, EOG, ECG, and EEG
• preferred: ability to work with electrophysiological apparatus such as oscilloscopes, impedance meters, pre-amplifiers, amplifiers, and stimulus generators and isolators
• preferred: experience with software for real-time experiment control and data acquisition, such as MATLAB or LabVIEW
• desired: experience with Linux, C, Python, PHP, JavaScript, MySQL, and NoSQL

We're especially interested in people who have added experience in software development, web and mobile and game and graphic design, QA testing, sales and marketing, mathematics, neuroscience, or education.

We have contract positions available for one or two graduate student or postdoctoral researchers with experience in natural language processing (NLP), speech synthesis and recognition, or related areas of machine learning.

Responsibilities

• development of algorithms for automated processing of text or speech
• development of interactive audiovisual feedback on the results of those algorithms
• optimization of the algorithms for operation in a real-time environment, with efficient distribution of processing between client and server
• keeping current with academic and technical research related to the project

Prerequisites

• required: experience with Linux, C, Python
• required: training in machine learning and data analysis
• preferred: training in computational linguistics, speech processing, NLP
• desired: experience with PHP, JavaScript, MySQL, and NoSQL alternatives

The work would be suitable for a thesis project, with the potential for subsequent publication in a peer-reviewed journal or conference.

The applicant must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

We are looking for bright and motivated students in health sciences undergrad programs with an interest in later pursuing medical studies.

• synthesis and creation of medical-training content in an innovative digital form
• publication of online resources to support current medical trainees in their study
• effective online collaboration with fellow premeds, medical students and physicians

Prerequisites

• required: second-year undergraduate courses (or above) in biology and biochemistry
• preferred: additional coursework in one or more engineering courses
• desired: digital graphics experience (e.g. Photoshop and Illustrator)
• desired: good language skills

This is a volunteer position supervised by more senior medical trainees and educators, with an ad hoc schedule requiring no minimum number of hours per week.

The position offers interns a chance to become deeply familiar with content they need to know to get into - and out of - medical school.
